I'm always amazed when I meet people who say they can't stand Christmas, because to me it can be a very magical time of the year.
It's just one of the examples of 'the map is not the territory'. We all make totally different meaning of situations and sometimes when we meet someone with a totally different view, it can be quite a shock!
It reminds me of the film 'Miracle on 34th Street' where the 'real' Father Christmas ends up working in a department store and it ends up with a story demonstrating the power of faith in things we don't really have enough evidence for.
And it's that faith in the unknown that can be a really powerful thing.
For example, I've recently been working with a client who had been feeling trapped in life and that things were never going to get better. She was feeling depressed and hopeless and nothing in life seemed to be working out.
After working with her for a while and reframing and helping her change some limiting beliefs she began to find new hope that things would change, and indeed faith in her inner resources to get through the tough times.
It's that faith that really made the difference - knowing that she had the inner strength and confidence to get through some really tricky situations in her life. She couldn't see that inner strength, but she ended up with a real belief in her resourcefulness.
We all have challenging situations that we face at some point in our lives, and a faith in our own internal resources can be the thing that gets us through and will even help us be stronger at the other end.
NLP is all about trying to help people find resources within themselves. It is what we call a Present State to Desired State model - we want to be somewhere else than we are now. The bigger the perceived gap between the Present State and the Desired State, the bigger the problem someone experiences.
And the way to bridge the gap is to find resources.
And the really amazing thing people discover on NLP trainings is that those resources are already within us - as we say on our NLP course - 'People have all the resources they need to achieve the things they want to.'
Sometimes it takes a change in thinking to realise those resources that we already possess, and that's where NLP gets so effective.
So what can you do right now to realise your resourcelfulness?
Write down different challenges you have faced in life successfully and start to consider what resources you have within you that helped you successfully overcome those challenges.
Whenever I face a challenge in life, I always think the most powerful question I can ask is 'What can I learn from this?' or 'How can I grow stronger from this.
When you have faith in yourself you can achieve amazing things!
