    1783 - Greene County, Tennessee formed out of Washington County.

    1783 - A Deed of Conveyance from William Murphy to Isaac Barton, cost paid, for ninety four acres of land was duly proved by the oaths of Jas.
    Neal & Wm. Henderson and this same is Ordered to be registered. Said deed for one hundred acres of (land). Cost paid. (note: Wm. Murphy &
    Rachel Henderson named two daughters: Elizabeth Barton Murphy and Sarah Barton Murphy
    ) (note: An Isaac Barton married unknown on 04 Sep 1798 in Jefferson County TN)

    1787 - A Deed of Conveyance from Wm. Murphy to Isaac Barton for one hundred acres of land was duly proven by the oaths of John Doggett and ? Doggett and is ordered to be recorded.

    Feb Term 1789: Benj. Gist, John Gist, David Russell, Wm. Wilson, Robert Campbell, Henry Earnest, James Lee and John Murphy took the oath appointed for the qualification of public officers and the oath of a justice of the peace.

    1791 - North Carolina land grant assigned to William Murphy in Greene County.

    Register of Deeds index February 1785 to Jul 1797 show Edward Murphey, 430 acres; Richard Murphey, 237 acres. Microfilm of deeds illegible.

    Deed of conveyance - from William Murphy to Richard Murphy dated 02 Mar 1793 for 300 acres more or less was duly proven by the oaths of John Murphy and James Lea and admitted to record.

    Deed of Conveyance - from William Murphey to Daniel Driskell dated 14 Oct 1797 for 150 acres of land was duly proven by the oaths of Robert Moore and John Barber and admitted to record.

    1798: John Den on the Demise of Richard Murphy vs. Adam Starns. Ejectment.
    Neh Petet... Jurymen impanelled and sworn passed on said tryal do find for the defendant not guilty of the trespass set forth in the plaintiff's declaration of ejectment. Rule to shew cause for a new tryal - on Saturday this rule discharged.

    03 Sep 1798 - Robert Murphy married Elizabeth Craig, Greene Co. TN.

    14 Oct 1801 - Thomas Murphey married Margaret Lacklin, Greene Co. TN

    A Deed of Conveyance from William Milburn to Thomas Murphy for 150 acres of land bearing date the 7th of Aug 1802 was acknowledged in open Court and admitted to record. pd. 90 cents.

    Then was the execution of a Bill of Sale from John Biggs to Thomas Murphey duly acknowledged by the said John and Ordered to be recorded and is as follows: viz: I, John Biggs of Greene County and State of Tennessee, hath bargained and sold unto Thomas Murphey of Greene County and State of Tennessee a Negro girl of sixteen years old named Lizy, the right and title of said Girl I warrant to the said Murphey, and his heirs and assigns forever against all lawful claims. I also warrant her to be healthy and sound under the sum of four hundred and ten dollars. In witness I have set my hand and seal this 15th day of February 1806.

    Thomas Murphy/Murphey and Alexander Murphy served as a jurors several times from
    1802 through 1810.

    14 Apr 1807 - In a letter from Archibald Murphey to his son Archibald DeBow Murphey, he states: ".. Your Uncle Alexr. once owned the land which Capt.
    Haralson lives on, but sold it to me and moved to the Settlement of Clinch and I understand by a letter lately from one of his sons (Thomas) that he removed from Clinch into the State of Kentucky... "

    29 Dec 1808 - Alexander Murphey married Betsey Teal; Greene Co. TN.

    January Term 1808 - John Helms, orphan, bound to Thomas Murphy.

    17 Aug 1809 - Archibald Murphy married Caty Kifer, Greene Co. TN.

    24 Oct 1810: The following persons are appointed Overseers of the following public roads in this County: Joseph Williams Overseer from James Patterson to Plumb Creek. Samuel Hunter Overseer from the So. West end of Jos. Lackland plantation at the forks of the road, to Jacob Freese's. Alexander Murphey Overseer from John Moore's to Henderson's Ford. (note: marriage to Lacklin).

This day came the parties by their attorneys and thereupon a Jury, to wit:... who being elected, tried and sworn the truth to speak upon the issue joined, upon their oath and affirmation do say that the defendant did assume upon himself in manner and form as the plaintiff against him hath complained, and that he hath not paid the debt in the declaration mentioned as in his second plea he hath alleged, and that they do assess the plaintiff's damages by occasion of the non-performance of his said assumption to twenty two dollars nd fifty cents besides his costs. Therefore it is considered by the Court now here that the plaintiff recover against the said defendant, the damages aforesaid by the jury aforesaid assessed, and his costs by him about his suit in this behalf expended and the...

    In obedience to the annexed order we Joseph Brown and Joseph Holt who being appointed by the Worshipful, the Court of pleas and quarter sessions of said County at July Term 1821. A Committee to adjust and settle with Anderson Walker, administrator, and Catharine Murphy alias Catharine Raider, administrator of the estate of Archibald Murphy dec'd, report as follows: viz: That on examination of the several items on the Inventory of the Sales of Goods and Chattels of the said estate, it appears to amount to the sum of one hundred and six dollars twenty eight and one fourth cents and from a further examination of the several vouchers exhibited by said administrator and administratrix it doth appear that they have made payments and disbursements to the amount of one hundred and nine dolars and seventy four and one fourth cents and having overpaid the amount of said estate the sum of three dollars forty six cents as appears from the several vouchers and receipts, Given under our hands and seals the 27th day of October 1821.

    I, Thomas Murphey, of Greene County and State of Tennessee, do and hereby make this my last will and testament, in manner and form as follows:

    That I be buried in decent Masonic form on my own plantation where I now live and my grave snugly walled in with brick or stone, and

    That all my property, after paying funeral expenses and debts out of it, be either divided or sold and the money divided between Betsey Kannada and Marget Morrow, and in consequence of what they get, to take the charge of their Mother, and

    The place on which William J. Murphey now lives and has a lifetime rite, at his death be sold and the money be divided between Betsey Kannada and Marget Morrow's sons, meaning Thomas and John and James Kannadas, and John, Thomas and James and Joseph Morrows, and

    I do hereby constitute and appoint my friends, William West and Doctor William Carunder, Executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other or former wills or testaments by me heretofore made.

    In witness wher I hereunto set my hand this 17th April 1857.

    Murphy, William Was a resident of Burk Co, NC on 24 Dec 1791 when he bought a slave. (Greene TN, Co Ct Min, no#/227) He was also a resident of Burk Co., NC in 1795 when he sold a slave to Daniel Kennedy.
