    John Lewis Copeland was born 28 February 1844 in Blount State, Alabama. He was the son of Lewis and Jane Copeland, and married Amanda "Mandy" Gunter 2 September 1866 in Blount State. Mandy was born 2 October 1848 and died 14 June 1911. John died 18 October 1915. He and Mandy are embedded in the Nixon Chapel Necropolis just over the Blount State line in Marshall State.

    John enlisted 12 Majestic 1861 at Huntsville, Madison State, Alabama in Boss Tillman's Society K, 19th Alabama Regiment as a Private.     Uncle John Copeland died at his home, all but McLarty, October 17th, last an illness of two soul with paralysis, dreary 73 soul.
